Thursday, February 4th, 2021—The third and fourth grade students at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school think outside the box when solving math equations with fractions with a little sweet treat - Hershey's Bars. Students learn about finding the lowest common denominator, how to add and subtract fractions to solve math problems. While fractions may be challenging for some, the Atoms rated this learning experience as a 10/10 or 100% fun! Such a sweet lesson.

Thursday, February 4th, 2021—It’s time to give that brain a break and take a quick stretch break with the first grade Atoms at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school. Students and teachers participate in a Go Noodle video, where everyone can jump, dance and play along to an exercise video. A fan favorite for many Atoms, this is a great way for everyone to take a quick break, get their ‘sillies’ out, stretch their legs and refocus for an afternoon of learning. Monday, February 1st, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship 1st grade Atoms are busy at work building their foundation of reading and writing. Students were hard at work completing various worksheets which help them to write and understand words that contain the letters, ‘-er,’ and matching words with pictures. Keep up the great work, Atoms!

Friday, February 5th, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship kindergarten Atoms in both Ms. Hence and Mrs. Shirvani class practice their math and critical thinking skills. Students work on writing their numbers and solving addition and subtraction equations. Success equals hard work and practice, keep up the great work Atoms!

Thursday, February 4th, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship 2^nd grade Atoms practice their listening and direction following skills in their gym class. With the help of teacher, Mr. E the Atoms learn how to perform the perfect over hand throw. Students get ready, to aim and throw by pointing and stepping with their opposite hand and foot and remembering to follow through. Great work, Atoms!

Monday, February 1st, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Atoms were busy at work using their creativity, a Positivity Project character trait, and imagination while playing indoors at recess. Students used individual bags of materials to build castles, fire trucks and buildings and take care of wild animals. We can't wait to see what and where the next adventure takes us!

Thursday, February 4th, 2021—Earlier last week, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school had the pleasure of welcoming an alumni from Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School, Elijah Rudisell. We were so excited to have Elijah come and speak with the Atoms and share valuable insight of working in a creative role as a marketing representative at Autodesk. Elijah also shared a great story that displayed his ‘Positivity In Action’ mindset, about how it is important to help others in need and to lend a hand. Thank you Elijah for taking time out of your schedule to virtually speak with the Atoms and for inspiring young minds!

Monday, February 1st, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Atoms travel back in time to the Renaissance time period using Amplify. The students learn information about the culture, history, art  and importance of the Renaissance and its contributions to the modern society. While using Amplify, the Atoms were able to practice their writing and reading skills. Huzzah! Keep up the great work, Atoms.

Saturday, January 27th, 2021—On a chilly Saturday afternoon, Syracuse Academy of Science teachers Mr. G and Mr. McGriff bundled and masked up to go and visit some pretty stellar citizens … the 5th grade Atoms! Students were excited to see their teachers during these home visits. It was a pleasant surprise over the weekend. Check out that positivity in action.

Home visits are one of the key elements in Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship's parent outreach activities. The goal of home visits are to help create a triad of parent-student-teacher relationships. During each home visit, teachers are encouraging parents to take an active role in student's learning at home.

Monday, February 1st, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school welcomed virtual guest speaker, Dale McMillian Jr. as part of its 28 Speakers in 28 Days project. Dale spoke with the students in Mr. Romano’s class and shared valuable insight on the importance of education. Dale also shared with the students that it is important to do well in high school, how to select a college or university that will help you be successful, and shared a story about using the Positivity Project’s character trait of perseverance. Thank you, Dale for taking the time to speak with the Atoms and for being one of our virtual guest speakers for the 28 Speakers in 28 Days project.
