Wednesday, February 11th, 2021—Continuing with Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school's 28 Speakers in 28 Days event, Atoms welcomed two first responder virtual guest speakers -Army Sergeant Aaron Lamontagne and Ranette Releford.
Sergeant Aaron Lamontagne spoke with the 3rd grade Atoms about his career in the military, various duties, training with the military and the roles and responsibilities he had while serving with the Army. Thank you, Sergeant Aaron for your service!
Ranette Releford spoke with our students about her career working closely with the police department during investigations and ensuring that all parties involved uphold their job responsibilities. Ms. Releford also shared her experience of running for Onondaga County Legislature.

Thursday, February 11th, 2021—During the month of February, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school hosted a virtual event called, 28 Speakers in 28 Days. In this event, we welcomed various business professionals, community leaders, Syracuse Academy of Science alumni, thought leaders and more to virtually speak with the Atoms.
Today, we share with you three Syracuse Academy of Science Alumni who expressed the value and importance of education, wisdom into their career field, and insight into college and being a student athlete. Our virtual guest speakers included:

Monday, February 22nd, 2021—The Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship first grade mathematicians were busy at work practicing their problem solving and strategic thinking skills. Students used various hands-on, minds-on tools such as counters and mini whiteboards to solve the subtraction problems on their math worksheet. Keep up the great work, Atoms!
Friday, February 26th, 2021—During the month of February, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school hosted a Band-Aid Drive in efforts to collect fun Band-Aids to donate to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. It’s with everyone’s efforts, generosity and kindness that we are happy to share that we collected 212 boxes of Band-Aids (or 4,532 Band-Aids). These Band-Aids will benefit the children and their families at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Now this is what we call, positivity in action! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and successful. Please give yourself a round of applause!
Wednesday, February 24th, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school had the sweet pleasure of welcoming Tykemia Carman as its next virtual guest speaker for the 28 Speakers in 28 Days project. Tykemia Carman is the proud business owner of Crave Dessert Studio, was featured on the Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge, and is also a Syracuse Academy of Science alumna. Tykemia shared with the Atoms the important role education played in her life, as well as, her most recent dessert project. Thank you, Tykemia for taking the time out of your busy schedule to speak with the Atoms! You left us all craving something sweet.
Monday, February 22nd, 2021—The Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship kindergarten Atoms participate in a hands-on, minds-on activity using Amplify’s Chaining Folders. In this activity, students practice saying, hearing and learning vowel and consonant sounds to better understand how words are formed. Keep up the great work, Atoms!
Monday, February 22nd, 2021—Namaste, Atoms! The Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school Atoms started a new PE unit, Yoga, on Monday, February 22nd. In this unit, Mr. E will teach the Atoms various stretches and moves such as Downward Dog, Happy Baby, Cat, and Cow just to name a few. With the Yoga practice, Atoms will have a better understanding and opportunity to practice their flexibility, coordination and connecting their minds and bodies.
Monday, February 22nd, 2021—The second grade Atoms in Mrs. Badman’s class are welcomed back from their Mid-Winter Break with a fun Fact Fluency activity. In this ‘popcorn style’ game, Mrs. Badman asks the Atoms various math problems to solve, and the students shout out the answers. Click here to watch this very cute, short video. Welcome back, Atoms!
Thursday, February 4th, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship 3rd grade Atoms were busy at work practicing their reading and comprehension skills while using Lexia Learning. Each student navigates at their own pace through various levels all while building and enhancing their phonics skills. Keep up the good work, Atoms!
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school will have a Picture Retake Day on Tuesday, February 23rd and Friday, February 26th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Online learning students may attend either Picture Retake Day to have their school picture taken. Please note, we are asking that all students wear their school uniform. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.
Friday, February 12th, 2021—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school recognizes Mrs. Daniel for its next teacher spotlight, for her dedication to ensuring that all the students receive the supplies and resources needed to build and enhance their reading skills. Always willing to go the extra mile and lend a helping hand to those in need, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship is grateful to have Mrs. Daniel as one of their teachers. Her compassion for helping not only the students but the team here at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school has certainly not gone unnoticed.
